Another Beautiful Picture of My Cat, Samwise!

It's not easy to take a picture of Samwise, so for each one that turns out there are usually fifty or sixty bad ones. He blinks. He moves. He nuzzles the camera. But it's always worth the trouble, because he just looks so perfect if you can get a good shot of him. Well, two days ago I got one! The flash didn't even have to turn on --- which means that his eyes are wide open!

Poor Samwise is having a hard time dealing with the loss of Manly and Olivia. He stopped talking for weeks and just walked around with a droopy tail. Finally, he started meowing again (he's a real squeak-pot!), but now he's lost a lot of his hair. He's actually pulled some of it out himself. Poor baby.

Elizabeth and I have been trying to get some work done on various dolls this week. Mom's computer monitor died yesterday, so we had to deal with that. I've had some time to research the Eliot Family a little bit and have found some fun facts. We're planning on a fun day tomorrow, but that'll have to be in another post. (Not to mention that I still need to post pictures of what I bought last weekend!) More later.

Happy 6th Birthday, Samwise!

Another year has rolled by, and it's September 29th again! Today is Samwise and Frodo's sixth birthday. It's hard to think that, just six short years ago, they were little mouse-looking babes. The sweeties! Here's a nice (new) picture of my baby, Sammy! Of course, he wouldn't oblige by looking at the camera, but maybe he just wanted everyone to see his gorgeous profile. He's such a lover-pooh. Look at those ridiculously long whiskers. Isn't he cute?!

Well, we've been out grocery shopping all day, so we're all POOPED! Here comes dinner (thanks to hard-working Elizabeth), so I better get going. More later.

Happy Birthday, Samwise!

Samwise, Aramintie, and Frodo are "celebrating" their fifth birthday today! This exciting news seems to have done little to affect the normal activities of their day, but they're not opposed to a small candle in their evening wet food --- though it is really only the wet food itself that they care about. :)

Gramma and Kelly have headed up to see Aunt June and spend two nights with Carol. We spent yesterday morning at the produce auction, and Gramma bought tons of stuff to take back to Aunt Susie and Aunt Lori. She bought so much stuff, in fact, that she and Kelly are going to have to come back by here on their way back down to Tennessee! Our kitchen floor is so full of boxes that we can't even walk over to the butcher-block at the moment. Elizabeth and I are going to have to spend tomorrow afternoon consolidating it all into as few boxes as possible. Here is a picture of most of the food that we got. There was some more, but it's in other spots!

Last night, we ate a fun Dinner of cheese fondue with sourdough bread, Empire apples with caramel dip, pumpkin butter and pineapple. It was the best fondue that Mom's ever made!! Wow. This morning came too early, since we weren't to bed until midnight. It's been dark, grey and rainy-looking all day, but except for two tiny little drizzles the deluge held off. So, we went up to Stan Hywet Hall in Akron. They were having their annual "Ohio Mart" --- an outdoor show of crafters from all over the state. We got free tickets with our pass, so we went for that and took a house tour. I got a really cute mushroom statue for my garden, so pics of that ocming soon! Gramma and Kelly continued on up to Carol's house, and we stayed to finish looking around. I just love that house, and we actually got a tour of the Master bedroom by one of the Seiberling granddaughters. She grew up just a block or two away and went over there all the time to play with her cousins. She said it was the best house to grow up in, and that it still looks exactly like it did when she was growing up. Cool.

So, Mom and I are hoping to go to the produce auction again tomorrow to get some more decorations for my garden. The farmer behind us was nice enough to give me about thirty corn stalks to decorate with, so I can't wait to put those up! More later.

Samwise vs. Tricky Woo: Any Similarities?

"Tricky Woo". He's that fantastic dog character in the All Creatures Great and Small stories by James Herriot. He is an overweight, buff-colored Pekingese. His owner, Mrs. Pumphrey, is an elderly widow lady who spends much of her vast fortune on sweet, little Tricky. Tricky is never allowed to eat plain old dog food --- he eats dinners fit for royalty and always snacks on chocolate and bonbons. For his daily exercise Tricky mounts a large velvet pillow and is carried around by the gardener.

Elizabeth seems to see similarities between Tricky Woo and my cat, Samwise. Is that fair? Okay, so Sammy is 17lbs. and buff-colored, but he's not overweight, just a big-framed fellow. Okay, so he's sleepy for twenty hours a day and tired for the other four, but he gets up for his afternoon stretch and snack. He even walks himself to the food bowl! Okay, so he isn't the brightest tool in the shed and he eats anything on the floor that fits in his mouth --- but he never eats "people food". Okay, so I have spent a portion of our not-so-vast wealth on special toys that are only for Sammy, but he loves lying on my bed, on the five inches of memory foam and the down comforter, while you wiggle toys over his head for him to bat at with his paw.

Alright, so he's spoiled rotten, but he is the best cat in the world --- in my opinion. He waits to be the first cat allowed in our room every morning, and he's always the last one out at night. He stays in for some extra "lovin's", and is very vocal if he doesn't get enough! All in all, I don't see any resemblance between Samwise and Tricky, but . . .

Happy Birthday, Samwise!

. . . "For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow, that nobody can deny!"

Another year has come and gone, and Samwise, Frodo and Aramintie are another year older. They all turned four today! Wow . . . and to think that they're the babies around here. Seems like just yesterday that they were born in the dining room.

I tried to get a birthday picture of Sammy, but he just wasn't very interested. This is the most awake one that I got! He's a very sleepy fellow, in fact, he sleeps about twenty hours a day and is sleepy for the other four. Just kidding . . . sort of.

Goodbye, Aline. We loved you.

Two days ago we had to put one of our adorable kitties to sleep. Aline had been born in our dining room on April 15, 2006, along with six brothers and sisters. We still have four of them; the others have all gone to sleep. Aline was a sweet little thing and a true lover. She probably had cancer and she was just born old. We are very thankful for the three & a half years that we had her. Here's a cute pic of her.

On a happy note: here is a picture that I just took of Samwise about five minutes ago. Isn't he the cutest cat ever?! I sure love him a lot.

We've all been busy around here getting our Christmas shopping finished and working on our homemade presents. I'm dying to post pictures of what I am making for Elizabeth . . . but she reads this blog, so I'll just have to wait a few weeks! ;) Tomorrow is Mom's birthday, so I need to go get started making a birthday cake. More later.

My Picture of the Day!

I just had to post this one. I was playing around with Sammy (and the camera) this morning and I couldn't believe Sammy stayed in this position long enough to snap it! Isn't he the cutest cat in the world!?

Happy Birthday, Samwise!

It's Sammy's birthday today! He, Frodo and Aramintie are three years old today! Here are two pictures of Samwise. That is me holding him today. He's not too good when it comes to pictures as he blinks all the time. :) Frodo on the other hand . . . he's a camera ham and just loves having his picture taken!

Happy birthday, Samwise! I love you soooooo much. He's the sweetest cat in the world!

Samwise: The Cutest Cat!

This is a photo slideshow of my cat, Samwise. He's the cutest thing in the whole world. All fluffy and smells like honey. :) Elizabeth thinks I exaggerate, but this is the pure truth. Just look at these photos, and see if you don't think that he's the cutest cat ever!

Every morning he's waiting at our bedroom door to be let in for his "lovin's", and he's always the last one out at night. The pictures are pretty much in chronological order, so you'll see him grow up! Take a look at the last picture. Isn't he just so beautiful?!

My Cat: Samwise the Honey Pot!

I don't know what to write for the first post, so I'll just show some pics of my special cat. I was looking through pictures of our cats the other day and thought I would post some really cute ones of my special baby, Samwise. :D He is so cute and fluffy.

He was born in our Dining Room along with a little brother, Frodo, and a sister, Aramintie. Samwise is known around here as a "squeak pot". When he was a baby he didn't like anyone to touch him or even get close to him. If he smelled you near him or you tried to pet him he would start squeaking at the top of his lungs until his Mommy came and "protected" him. Silly Sammy!

His mother soon learned how to turn his squeaks to her advantage. She didn't relish the idea of spending six weeks by herself in the Dining Room (we thought the babies would be safer in there away from our other nine cats), so she carried Sammy to the closed door and dropped him there so that we would hear the squeaking and open the door. Mommy was out like a dart and left poor Sammy alone --- don't worry! We always rescued him. ;)

Finally, after two weeks of this, we gave up and let the Mommy move the little babies into the Living Room. She couldn't be happier and Sammy wasn't always being deposited on the cold floor to make a racket. :D The first picture is of Elizabeth holding Samwise when he was one week old. He was squeaking up a storm the whole time!

Isn't Sammy precious. He still squeaks, but usually when he wants you to pet him and give him "lovin's". ;) Every morning he waits outside of our bedroom for us to let him in at the morning and he is the last one to leave at night (he has to have "alone time" to get petted). He's quite selfish, but he's so cute that you can't get mad at him. ;) He's a big boy now and has huge paws! The last picture is from a couple weeks ago; he is just over two years old! :D
